Description
The business systems analyst is the liaison between and among Berkshire Hathaway Energy/MidAmerican Energy Company accounting management and staff and information technology to ensure that the business' information technology-related needs and expectations are satisfied. The business systems analyst provides financial applications support for all management levels of the company, which encompasses: providing financial and ad hoc reporting support, providing corporate allocations support, being responsive to chart of accounts questions, operating or maintaining financial applications, troubleshooting and resolving system issues and preserving integrity of system data through validation maintenance and code block support. Responsibilities also include supporting budget and forecast processes, determining appropriate technical solutions to issues encountered between systems, researching and analyzing both the financial interface and general ledger files at a unique transaction level performing transaction verification through financial tables and other system research tools, reviewing the daily interfaces file data and providing other services in support of the goals and objectives of Berkshire Hathaway Energy/MidAmerican Energy Company accounting, MidAmerican Energy Company information technology. 

The senior business systems analyst is the liaison between and among Berkshire Hathaway Energy/MidAmerican Energy Company accounting management and staff and information technology to ensure that the business' information technology-related needs and expectations are satisfied. The senior business systems analyst provides advanced financial applications support for all management levels of the company, which encompasses: providing financial and ad hoc reporting support, maintaining corporate allocations and code, coordinating the design, testing and implementation of new accounting systems or processes,  being responsive to chart of accounts questions, operating or maintaining financial applications, troubleshooting and resolving system issues and preserving integrity of system data through validation maintenance and code block support. Responsibilities also include administering budget and forecast processes, determining appropriate technical solutions to issues encountered between systems, researching and analyzing both the financial interface and general ledger files at a unique transaction level performing transaction verification through financial tables and other system research tools, reviewing the daily interfaces file data, monitoring the status of outstanding system-related financial issues, identifying and formulating plans to address future requirements and providing other services in support of the goals and objectives of Berkshire Hathaway Energy/MidAmerican Energy Company accounting, MidAmerican Energy Company information technology. 

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
Provide financial application support for all management levels of company. Responsive to business processes in relationship to their effect on the general ledger, determining appropriate technical solutions to issues encountered between systems, provide administrative support for budget and forecast process, provide corporate allocations support, researching and analyzing both the financial interfaces and general ledger system files at a unique transaction level, , performing transaction verification through financial tables and other system research tools and reviewing daily interface file data.  

Provide financial application support for all management levels of the company. Respond to accounting code block or validation questions. Maintain chart of accounts and support monthly reporting and accounting close process. Operate or maintain financial applications including analyzing, troubleshooting and resolving system issues as they occur. Provide back-up support to other accounting systems support staff to ensure a high degree of availability of help desk services. Contribute to a safe and productive workplace environment. Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.  

Develop functional and technical specifications for application enhancements and modifications. Provide or facilitate the provision of development and support activities relating to information technology-supported application corrections and enhancements in order to minimize disruptions. Participate in the scheduling, execution, testing and sign-off of all changes. Audit efficiency and effectiveness of infrastructure and application-related activities.  

Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. 

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business management, management information systems, accounting or related field. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.) 
  • The business system analyst position requires four or more years of accounting, information technology or related work experience in the development or support of financial applications. 
  • The senior business system analyst position requires six or more years of accounting, information technology or related work experience in the development or support of financial applications. 
  • Technical and functional knowledge of financial systems and interfaces to financial systems. 
  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills with knowledge in accounting system interfaces or processes. 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. 
  • Familiar with the use of query and reporting tools such as PL/SQL, Microsoft Access or Oracle Discoverer.
  • Advanced personal computer skills; Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. 
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. 
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
