JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dedicated and results driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Technical Engineer supporting our Nuclear Regulatory Affairs department located in Pickering, Ontario.

The Senior Technical Engineer will be responsible for collaborating with staff throughout our Pickering Nuclear Generation Station (PNGS) and communicating with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). You will collect information and provide assistance, guidance and advice to our PNGS stakeholders and communicate with the CNSC directly regarding event notifications, reporting/assessments, approvals, and compliance/audit findings.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  

  • Support Regulatory Programs, Strategy & Support or Pickering Regulatory Affairs department in driving strategic regulatory initiatives in areas such as: PNGS Optimization and Periodic Safety Review, PNGS Safe Storage, PNGS Decommissioning, Nuclear fleet wide fuel channel portfolio support, nuclear safety analysis, pressure boundary, security, and waste disposal options etc.;
  • Provide advice and support to Department Manager and Section Manager on various regulatory issues.
  • Act as single point of contact for regulatory issues and drive items to resolution by negotiating with line organization and regulatory body;
  • Collect information, research, and summarize findings by delivering technical documents, event notifications, reporting/assessments, approvals, and compliance/audit findings;
  • Correspond with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commissioning (CNSC) through both written and verbal interactions;
  • Request and obtain regulatory approvals from the CNSC to support PNGS and Waste Management facilities operation;
  • Conduct meetings to gather relevant information;
  • Simplify large quantities of data/information into concise and easy to understand reports;  
  • Provide continuous status updates and communication on several ongoing projects at one time;
  • Gather input from stakeholder departments and agencies to ensure project requirements are captured and detailed in the project documents;
  • Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and government agencies as required.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Applied Science
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ Years of experience working/supporting with regulatory agencies, including experience with preparation of licence renewal application and commission member document for a nuclear power plant;
  • Experience reading, understanding and interpreting codes, standards, regulations and acts;
  • Excellent problem solving skills, solution oriented and able to see the big picture;  
  • Ideal candidates will have worked in the nuclear engineering environment;
  • Experience and ability as a team player to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal and external groups in order to facilitate objectives and ensure projects satisfy stakeholder requirements;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and must be comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations;
  • Have a strong interest in fast-paced, challenging work environment where showing initiative and self motivation are assets;
  • Proven track record on delivering results;
  • Strong in understanding, executing and following governance and procedures with a questioning and analytical attitude/approach under minimum required supervision.
