Position Summary

Washington Gas is seeking a Supervisor, Field Operations to join our Operations leadership team! Reporting to the Manager, Meter & Regulatory Services, the Supervisor, Field Operations will supervise the daily activities within the Contractor Services group.

What You'll Do:

  • Supervise the daily work of assigned represented Washington Gas contractors, as well as internal direct reports.

  • Responsible for hiring, evaluating, training, performance management, compensating, motivating, coaching, and developing staff.

  • Oversee contractor support associates who support new meter installations and process contractor invoicing.

  • Oversee Operations Support Specialists who have direct oversight over all field activities to the contractor teams.

  • Performs site visits and participates in offsite meetings.

  • Coordinate among internal teams to delegate and prioritize tasks and conduct status updates and check-ins with individual team members to ensure the completion of tasks.

  • Ensure that all phases of Field Operations meet or exceed corporate, business unit, regulatory, and project objectives through the sound use of sound implementation of internal policies and procedures, while ensuring that projects are completed within budgetary limitations.

  • Oversee the successful and safe operation of contractor installation and maintenance projects.

  • Conducts monthly safety meetings with contractor teams and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local codes.

  • Provide regular project status check-ins, progress tracking, and updates on deliverables with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders.

  • Coordinate emergency response field operations to ensure customer, public, and employee safety at all times.

  • Establishes guidelines and practices to ensure that company facilities are maintained per applicable regulations.

  • Works directly with the Insurance Risk team to resolve contractor claims.

  • Tracks, reports and helps improve contractor Service Level Agreement performance.

What You Bring:

  • A high school diploma/GED is required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • 5+ years of related work experience, preferably in the natural gas (or related) industry, appliance service, natural gas piping, HVAC, or construction, etc. required.

  • Contractor oversight and project management experience preferred.

  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.

  • Ability to pass post-offer gas odor recognition testing.

  • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to reconcile conflicting goals and priorities and to lead projects to completion.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of pipeline construction, replacement, operations, maintenance, and emergency response procedures and practices, federal, state, and local codes and procedures.

  • Extensive knowledge of appliance service field construction operations, gas distribution, heating and air conditioning, pipework, electrical wiring and controls, venting and ventilation, and/or the workings of gas equipment.

  • Working knowledge of appliance diagnostic repair and gas distribution, with strong mechanical aptitude.

  • Strong planning and scheduling abilities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs with the ability to share, retrieve, research, and present business information.

  • Demonstrated ability to present diverse ideas logically and concisely both verbally and in writing, with the ability to logically analyze the solve narrowly defined business problems.

  • Excellent ability to rapport and effective working relationships with business partners, supervisors, subordinates, contractors, and peers.

  • Must be willing to work overtime, and weekends, be on call and standby as the need arises.

Position Schedule

The successful candidate must be available for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week emergency response, and must be available for possible shift work, including assignment of evenings and/or weekends.
