The Energy Risk Specialist (ERS) will play a key role at Southern California Edison processing collateral instruments to manage credit exposures around Energy Procurement & Management, Transmission & Distribution, Supply Chain Management, and Customer Service activities. The Specialist will oversee collateral holdings, such as letters of credit, parental guarantees, surety bonds, escrow accounts, and cash, to ensure appropriate compliance based on contractual credit terms. 

The ERS must be able to work under strict requirements to meet operational deadlines and because other internal partners are dependent on much of their work. The ERS must be detail oriented with the ability to multi-task. The Specialist will be expected to independently identify and resolve issues. The Specialist may also recommend and implement improvements to complex spreadsheets (UDAs) in order to streamline processes and meet business needs.

  • Responsible for uploading and maintaining energy prices in a deal capture system.
  • Track credit exposures and produce collateral reports in order to manage credit risk.
  • Monitor expiring collateral instruments and coordinate with banks or insurance companies to draw on collateral, when necessary.
  • Process margin calls with counterparties and clearing firms, while expeditiously resolving any margin disputes.
  • Review incoming collateral instruments such as letters of credit, parental guarantees, surety bonds, escrow accounts, and cash for accuracy and process for approval.
  • Coordinate with banks and others to issue letters of credit when SCE is required to post collateral.
  • Enter all transactions in a credit risk system to ensure accurate recordkeeping of all collateral.
  • Perform variance analysis of Risk Management General Ledger cash accounts for financial and audit purposes.
  • Reconcile trading positions and settlement prices against a daily clearing statement to ensure accurate deal entry for all trading activity.
  • Represent Risk Management at companywide meetings regarding processes and policies.

The Essentials

  • Three or more years of experience in an analytical role.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

The Preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Business, Accounting, Economics or related field.
  • Experience with energy contracts, risk management related to energy procurement, or the CAISO market.
  • Experience with macros and database queries.
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Knowledge of accounting processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Endur or other commodity trading systems.
