Description

WORK ILLUSTRATION:

The Manager, Stations (Design) is responsible for organizing, directing, and supervising resources in the Stations department to ensure quality stations distribution system designs are completed, approved and issued in a cost effective and timely manner.  Specific responsibilities include oversight of: analysis, design drawings, contract management, technical support of field construction and technical specifications. 

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Coaches, develops and provides guidance to a team of Engineers, Technologists and Students, including performance management, feedback and development planning ensuring safety, productivity, quality and program requirements are met in a timely manner
  • Oversees engineering of stations systems capital program including
    • Equipment specifications
    • Direct and indirect materials and equipment procurement
    • Construction drawings
    • Project estimating and costing
    • Engineering approvals for compliance with ESA 22/04
    • Project variance analysis
    • Customer owned substation design review
    • Design contractor management for externally completed designs
    • Manages cost performance
    • Approves scope change recommendations
  • Manages multiple processes and projects; Identifies and implements productivity improvements and measurement; Optimizes utilization of resources
  • Ensures compliance with legislation and regulatory standards and guidelines
  • Ensures Engineers adhere to sound and ethical Professional Engineer practices
  • Reviews and approves final design and estimates
  • Carries out safety responsibilities in accordance with current safety performance standards, and participates in the development of improved safety programs
  • Implements plans and processes for proactive and consistent safety and environment programs
  • Addresses the emerging issues, internal, external customer inquires
  • Maintains business relationship/alliances with industry stakeholders and suppliers
  • Effectively coordinates and communicates with other sections and department
  • Contributes to the development of the departmental strategic plan

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario
  • Seven (7) years of experience in utility, electrical, civil, or mechanical design or operations environment; experience in the electrical utility industry involved in Stations, overhead and underground electrical distribution design and construction, protection and control preferred
  • Five (5) years of progressive leadership, project leadership experience; direct supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience in electrical distribution utility regulation and stations equipment engineering and design
  • Experience in safety by design and job planning for safety
  • Experience in a unionized environment is an asset
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to deal with multiple and varied work assignments and conflicting due dates
  • High proficiency in Microsoft office suite of applications and database management
  • Strong conceptual thinking; sees "big picture"; identifies connections or patterns that are not obvious to others
  • Business Acumen: Links long-range visions and concepts to daily work
  • Knowledge of process design practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong influential skills to champion solutions and drive them to the finish line
  • Business Planning and Project Management: Demonstrates ability to schedule and prioritize work and bring projects in on time and on budget.
  • Demonstrates stakeholder and change management skills
  • Valid Class "G" Driver's License in the Province of Ontario
