DESCRIPTION:
Under the general direction of the Manager Data Sustainment Services, the Sr. Systems Specialist - Database and Basis will primarily be responsible for the management and ongoing sustainment of the SAP landscape within FortisAlberta while applying standard IT processes and industry best practices.
The key areas of responsibility include assisting application development, reporting services and infrastructure staff to establish a sound and efficient Basis and database architecture that is flexible, expandable, robust, and reliable. The position is ensuring data services and management is aligned with strategic business goals and the Company's overall strategic vision.
The position requires combining technology with customer service and critical problem-solving techniques to carry out strategic and tactical Basis and database initiatives for FortisAlberta. In addition, the position would participate in infrastructure projects and provide ownership in Basis and database design, implementation, support and management.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
Solicit feedback from team members to determine impact of Basis and database changes on other systems and staff, while planning, managing and implementing change requests
Collaborate with analysts, developers and designers in the development and initiation of new software programs and applications and resolution of software problems
Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with existing data services and restore normal operations in a timely and accurate fashion
Proactively execute Basis performance and integrity monitoring, utilize established tools and industry best practices to identify and address problems before they occur
Provide Basis and database support to maximize system up time and ensure system availability in accordance with business requirements
Work with project teams to determine needs, set priorities, create project plans and determine schedules
Coordinate system resources among applications and optimize the resource utilization
Assist in managing back-up and recovery processes
Develop and maintain policies, processes and procedures
Ensure that the technology remains current and secure by patching and upgrading to the currently available proven software
Contribute to the ongoing architecture and design of the SAP Basis and Microsoft SQL Server environments
Provide and obtain cross-training in other environments that are the responsibility of the Data Sustainment Services support team
Special projects and other duties, as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of system and data lifecycle management
Comprehensive knowledge, including installation, upgrade and maintenance, of the SAP Basis layer and components specific to ECC, BW on HANA, SLT, Fiori (including BTP and cloud connector), HANA sidecar, PO, and CTS+.
Exposure to the migration, deployment, upgrade, maintenance and support of S/4HANA
Working knowledge of database administration (design, installation, upgrade & troubleshooting) of current Microsoft SQL with sound general database fundamentals
Knowledge and experience configuring SAP Solution Manager specifically including central system administration, system monitoring, E2E root cause analysis, centralized alerting and Early Watch reporting (and other modules as required)
Proven technical abilities, problem solving skills and experience providing operational support of highly available systems
Excellent organizational skills and time management skills to effectively manage multiple priorities and competing demands with tight timelines
Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to present information to various audiences in both formal and informal settings
Strong customer service focus with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with team members and internal and external stakeholders
Ability to effectively cope with change; this includes demonstrating personal flexibility, learning new systems and processes quickly while focusing on understanding and contributing value

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A Degree in Computer Science, or a related discipline plus a minimum of seven (7) years of IT related experience is required, including;
Minimum experience in the following areas:
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in SAP Basis installation, management, administration, and deployment within SAP Netweaver and/or related environments
A minimum of five (5) years of experience with Microsoft SQL server installation, configuration, and management.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a solution architect or technical lead on medium or large projects would be considered an asset.
Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably within the electrical utility industry, would be an asset.
